Meet our musicians

Yida Hu

Violin

International violinist Yida Hu is an active orchestral musician in Dallas area as he serves in Dallas Chamber Symphony, Plano Symphony Orchestra, Irving Symphony Orchestra, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and a substitute of Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Born in China, Yida moved to the U.S. for college at the age of 16, and has since earned three various degrees in music. Yida joined Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts in 2012 and had earned his Master of Music degree and a Performer’s Diploma in Violin Performance studying with Chee-Yun Kim. Yida has been actively performing in China, the U.S. and Europe. As a featured soloist, Yida recorded American Byways: The Music of Michael Daugherty with Grammy award winning composer Michael Daugherty in 2012 under Equilibrium label. In his spare time, Yida is an enthusiastic mountaineer with a sponsorship from an outdoor product company.

Abigail Potts Lesser Bishop string Quartet

Abigail Potts-Lesser

Violin

Abigail Potts-Lesser is currently an active musician in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. She performs with various symphony orchestras including those of Tulsa, Plano, Irving and Fort Worth. She plays regularly with String Quartet Dallas, formerly known as European Ensemble Strings, which provides music for weddings, receptions and other events. Apart from performing, Abigail teaches lessons in violin and viola in the Richardson School District. She also teaches private violin and piano lessons.  Abigail was born in Dallas Texas and began her musical studies with classical piano at age seven and the violin at age ten. Her first violin teachers included Clare Adkins Cason, Mary Alice Rich and Daphne Volle.  Her teachers have also included Sherry Kloss, Claire Hodgkins and Elaine Skorodin all of which were students of the famous Jascha Heifetz. As a Freshman at SMU, in the Fall of 2010, Abigail won first place in the SMU Undergraduate Concerto Competition. She performed Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michelle Merrill in January 2011. Abigail graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern Methodist University in the Fall of 2013 with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, studying with Emanuel Borok, former Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Caroline Swanson

Viola

Caroline Swanson is a violist currently working on her master’s degree at the Southern Methodist University, studying with Barbara Sudweeks. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan with Yizhak Schotten, and attended Interlochen Arts Academy for her last two years of high school. She has participated in many major summer festivals, such as the Texas Music Festival, the Brevard Music Festival, and the Castleman Quartet Program. Her orchestral experience includes various ensembles, including symphonies, opera orchestras, and string orchestras, and she has held frequent principal positions. Caroline is an avid chamber musician, having performed with numerous string quartets and other small ensembles. She has premiered several new works for solo viola, string quartet, and orchestra.

Charlotte Ullman

Cello

Charlotte Ullman is currently pursuing her Master’s of Music Degree in Cello Performance in the studio of Andrés Díaz at Southern Methodist University.  Active as both an orchestral and a chamber musician, she has recently performed alongside members of the Escher String Quartet in concerts at SMU. She has attended festivals including the Texas Music Festival, Wintergreen Summer Music Academy, and Meadowmount School of Music. Ullman earned her undergraduate degree in Cello Performance from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016, where she studied with Pittsburgh Symphony principal cellist Anne Martindale Williams.
